Starting SeeMetrics – our incredible 1st year in review and a look ahead

Shirley Salzman, CEO, SeeMetrics
Looking back on the past 365 days, wow, what a thrilling ride!

This time last year we were about to successfully close the Seed round for SeeMetrics. Everything looked immensely promising - enthusiastic investors and individuals wanted to join us on our journey, plans were being developed, new hires were on the way, and we were conducting visits to office spaces to pick the right location.

It wasn’t till January 4th, 2022 that everything was signed off on - all the lawyers involved were happy, and all the last minute surprises (no way to escape them!) had been dealt with. That day, it was almost 2 a.m. when I went to bed - but with peace of mind that the round was completed. Three months later, on April 6th we came out of stealth and officially launched.

Since then:

  • We’ve grown from a 3-person team to a team of 15
  • We assembled a rather jaw-dropping advisory team including Jason Chan, Former CISO of Netflix; Sounil Yu, CISO & Head of Research at JupiterOne; Yael Nagler, CISO at Financial Services and Founder of Yass Partners; Rafael Franco, Former Deputy General of Israeli Cyber Directorate; Frank Kim, CISO & Fellow at SANS Institute; and Sagit Manor, CFO at Nayax and Former CEO at Nyotron (acquired by Acronis).
  • We onboarded over half a million endpoints worldwide and dozens of enterprise users from CISO offices, strategy, GRC, and SecOps teams.
  • We integrated with 30+ security products
  • We are now working with globally recognized names across different industries including finance, media, and technology.
In Fall 2022, we were named a sample vendor in the Gartner Hype Cycle for Cyber Risk Management 2022, listed under the emerging Cybersecurity Performance Management (CPM) category.

While Gartner categories tend to be fluid, their definition is fully aligned with our vision to drive performance from the actual stack operations and “to continually assess the current performance of the overall cybersecurity function or individual programs and dynamically plan a strategic and business-aligned approach to driving improved cybersecurity performance based on defined goals and business outcomes”.

We won Silver for the 2022 Astor Awards for the Best Security Workforce Management Platform. We were also shortlisted as Security Software of the Year for the 2022 Cybersecurity Awards and had a great time at the British Black tie event.

Looking into 2023

The year ahead may prove to be an especially challenging one for security leaders as they continue to find themselves caught between two major challenges. On the one hand, attention to corporate cyber security is on the rise, garnering much greater focus on the performance and accountability of the CISO organization. On the other hand, the recession is forcing significant budget cuts, yet leaders and boards demand higher ROI on cybersecurity spending. In 2023, CISOs will need to quickly align their security program goals, budgets and personnel to fit into the new economic reality while demonstrating continuous and improved performance.

The SeeMetrics platform is at the very intersection of these challenges, designed to help streamline the greater-than-ever responsibility load on the CISO office.  With SeeMetrics, CISOs and security leaders will be empowered to rationalize their security stack,  resonate with the management of their security organization and easily communicate their budget needs and justifications across stakeholders.

There’s fierce competition out there for the attention of the CISO office and their ever busy teams. The consolidation trend (described in detail in a recent Gartner report) ought to be multi-dimensional and relevant for all functions e.g., vulnerabilities are consolidated in platforms such as Vulcan, events are consolidated in MDR, while metrics and measurements for security leadership management are consolidated in SeeMetrics.

If this time next year the need for continuous visibility into the security organization metrics is finally clear to all, SeeMetrics will be en route to something very special…

In the next twelve months, we will continue to supercharge our growth and work to unleash the transformation that will fundamentally change how CISOs and security leaders track, measure, and manage their security stack. When I think about how far we’ve come this time last year - all the unknowns, the good and the not-so-good news - I can’t wait to see where we’ll land at the end of 2023.
